The Caledonian Round Table No.185 Service Projects: 

1. Old Age Home (Shelter)

The Round Table 185 Caledon initiated the Old Age Home "Round Table Hostal", which is to give a home for some elderly people. Their problem is that their monthly old age pension is often taken away and spent by their children and/or grandchildren, so that they had no money left for their living. Round Table raised funds and collected building material etc. as well as applied for a donation of the National Fund of ARTSA (RT South Africa), built the house and now cares for about 12 old people.

They have to spent 70% of their old age pension for dwelling, and keep 30% of it as pocket money.

2. Caledon Round Table Day Care Centre for Children  [NEW]

In Caledon the government builts houses for the poor people, and during the day, as the parents are working, the small children are left at home alone. (Sadly, very often children are raped while left alone, so this project is very urgent.)

The RT 185 Caledon plans to built the day care centre in the same manner as the obove mentioned Old Age Home. The Tabler are going to erect the building, and the ACVV (organization that will run the Day Care Centre) manages the centre. (The ACVV is a church based organization of women, which is well structured and organized.)

The project will create about three permanent jobs, and about 40 to 50 children will be looked after.

The local government has given the ACVV the building site.

>>What is needed now ?

To date (April 2001) RT Caledon has received about R 76.000 (EURO 10.100,00)

(R 36.000,00 from RT area, R 5.000,00 Owen Frye Tour, R 15.000,00 from ARTSA, R 20.000,00 from RT185 members, that's 50% of what is needed !!)

The total cost  to start the project will be around R 130.000 to R 150.000, (EURO 20.000,00) and other funds will be raised around Caledon from local businesses and farmers as well as donations of building material- furniture, beds and other things (toys, pencils etc.) are also needed.
